Make a real difference

I help out at the Barnardos shop

I spent 2 hours at the Barnardos shop in Kings Heath as part of Make a Difference Day.
Make a Difference Day is the UK’s largest day of volunteering action run by CSV (Community Service Volunteers) and aims to raise the profile of volunteering and to involve the community in activities.
During my two hours at the shop I helped price videos and DVDs as well as helping to organise the book shelf. I served a few customers and priced a range of winter coats as well as subjecting them to a good steam cleaning.
Staff at Barnado’s are also keen to sign people up to Gift Aid – a government initiative which gives a tax refund to the charity for every pound donated.
Barnado’s is a wonderful organisation. I’m full of admiration for the work that people like Anita and Susan do. I’d encourage anyone with a bit of time on their hands to get involved with some voluntary work. It really is a vital part of the glue which helps bind our communities together.
Only £10 can help Barnado’s provide after school support for young carers to help relieve the strain and stress on the hidden army of children who are also carers for sick parents.
