Awards recognising the contributions of parliamentarians to tackling road casualties were presented by the charity Brake at its annual reception at the Houses of Parliament on Wednesday 19 January 2011, sponsored by Direct Line.

Steve McCabe, MP for Birmingham Selly Oak, received the ‘Community Campaigner’ Award for his determination that all schools in his constituency should be safe for children to get to.

Local MP Steve McCabe has praised the fundraising efforts of staff at his local Sainsbury’s in a store visit on Friday 21st January. Steve was asked to visit to congratulate Jenna Crowe and Becky O’Brien who recently won Sainsbury’s Charity of the Year competition, topping the poll in a contest which was open to over 480 Sainsbury’s store teams.

Steve volunteered for the committee specifically to keep up the pressure on the Government to jettison this unpopular policy.
 
The committee will debate the bill over a period of several weeks and Steve plans to raise the following issues.
