Letting balloons go for the balloon race at Chinnbrook CentreToday I visited the Chinnbrook Family & Community Project to join in on their annual ‘Fun Day’. The children’s centre organised the Fun Day of free activities and information to celebrate National Childminders Week, National Carers Week, Child Safety Week and Fathers Day.

The centre, developed under the government’s programmes of Sure Start centres which aims to deliver the best start in life for every child, put on a number of activities for both children and parents to enjoy. These included a visit from a fire engine, face painting, craft activities and even Indian Head massages for stressed parents.

I also helped to count down and release the balloons for a balloon race and helped out with ‘Rhythm time’.

It’s always nice to drop in and meet the children and parents at Chinnbrook Centre. I really applaud all the hard work that the centre’s staff and volunteers do to provide these kids with a fantastic start in life and prepare them for school.

Today just goes to show how important Sure Start centres are, particularly in providing support for parents. The Tories plan to cut investment in Sure Start workers would be a devastating loss to communities such as Billesley.

The centre is also running an Early Years Summer Play Scheme in the weeks beginning 4th August & 11th August for children aged 3 to 8 years old. For more information please see the PDF below or call the centre on 0121 464 4772.
