Steve has raised statistics which show that the number of young people not in education or training

The Government’s Labour Force Survey shows that there are now 119,000 more 19-24 year olds not in education, employment or training (NEETs) representing a rise of 18%.

In addition, the statistics released by the Department for Education shows that the number of young people not in education or training (NETs) has increased by 209,000 between the second quarter of 2010 and the same period in 2011.

“The Government must do more to tackle unemployment and help young adults find a position in education or training.

“I recently introduced a 10 Minute Rule Bill into the House of Commons which calls on the Conservative-led Government to provide a number of measures to tackle youth unemployment and provide training to apprentices.

“The BIll includes measures to encourage the employment and training of apprentices, and to require banks to support measures to lower youth unemployment.

“The damage to the long term prospects of young people who start their adult lives without having a job, or being in education or training is very concerning.

"I hope that the Conservative-Liberal Democrat Government will support my 10 Minute Rule Bill to provide jobs and provide young people with skills training”.
