Steve McCabe vows to protect war memorials

The War Memorials Trust and the SmartWater Foundation have teamed up to locate and protect thousands of war memorials across the United Kingdom.

The effort centres on SmartWater; a unique marker which can help trace items should they fall foul to theft. It is also a highly durable material, which can withstand high temperatures should an effort be made to melt down stolen metals. Memorium 2014 aims to use SmartWater, generously provided free of charge, in a bid to protect our nation’s memorials from theft or damage.

Researchers recently concluded 74% of criminals would be deterred from stealing if they knew targets were marked with SmartWater.

Steve said “It is incredibly important that we, as a nation, remember our war dead and protect our war memorials. They are a very visual reminder of our debt to past generations.

There are thought to be around 100,000 war memorials in the UK today. To help locate and protect those memorials is an incredibly honourable cause, and one I am proud to put my name to."
