Steve joined the community at St Marys Hospice for the day to help staff care for the patients at the hospice. Having previously supported CSV through volunteer work at Birmingham Women’s Hospital, Steve is a firm supporter of the work that CSV is doing.

St Marys Hospice provides care for people with a range of life affecting illnesses such as Cancer, Motor Neurone Disease and MS. Through both inpatient treatment for those most at risk and a day visitation centre for those who require treatments, the hospice provides both essential care and a true sense of community for those who attend.

Steve spent the morning with June who taught him the ropes. His duties involved serving morning tea and coffee and lunches to patients.

Steve said:

“It was a real hands on experience. I'm extremely grateful to St Mary's Hospice for the privilege of letting me volunteer with them and to June in particular who was extremely patient with me and happy to answer all my questions.

“The Hospice has a lovely friendly atmosphere and although people there are obviously quite ill there is a lightness and tranquillity about the place that makes it an enjoyable place to be.'
