Steve McCabe MP, Birmingham Selly Oak, attended an event to launch the report ‘Keeping People with D

The Primary Care Diabetes Society (PCDS) convened a Working Group of diabetes clinical experts to take a closer look at why people with diabetes are more likely to be admitted into hospital and the impact this has on the NHS.

After a series of discussions with different groups the Working Group came up with a series of recommendations for the diabetes clinical community. These recommendations cover early diagnosis; targeting vulnerable groups; enabling access to patient information across the NHS, and encouraging integrated multi-disciplinary ways of working.

Steve said:

“I was pleased to be invited to the launch of this report. Understanding why people with diabetes are more likely to be admitted to hospital is the first step to reversing the trend.

“The recommendations by the PCDS are sensible and I encourage their adoption.

“Any money spent on strategies to prevent people from being admitted to hospital is money well spent in my eyes.”
