Birmingham residents given opportunity to switch-on Local TV

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and OFCOM have recently announced that Birmingham
It is hoped that local media outlets will support local democracy and commerce and provide communities with relevant and targeted content from organizations and companies based in Birmingham. The service will broadcast on the popular Freeview platform.
Steve said “I’m encouraging community groups, local companies, schools, colleges, universities and media companies to engage with the DCMS and OFCOM to make the most of this exciting opportunity.
“A local TV service will bring the most relevant news to people in Billesley, Bournville, Brandwood and Selly Oak.
“I look forward to consulting organizations throughout my constituency this month on their views and offer any help I can”.
Local TV stations could begin broadcasting as early as September 2013.
Interested parties are advised to visit http://stakeholders.ofcom.org.uk/consultations/local-tv/ for more information and to make a submission to OFCOM’s consultation process.
The consultation will end 19 March 2012.
