Steve talks to landlords about tackling anti-social behaviour

Steve met with the Social Landlords Crime and Nuisance Group (SLCNG) to discuss ways to tackle anti-

Tackling anti-social behaviour is core business for social landlords as primary investors in neighbourhoods and communities. SLCNG represents and promotes the interests of all providers of social housing in the UK with the aim of ensuring that tenants, their households and the wider community are able to benefit from the quiet enjoyment of their homes.

There are over 4.25 million social tenancies in the UK and Landlords record just over 300,000 cases of anti-social behaviour a year. Early intervention accounts for around 85% of all actions taken to resolve anti-social behaviour; this means anti-social behaviour is tackled with very few forced evictions, accounting in one study for just 0.14% of the actions taken by social landlords.

Steve said:

“I am really glad I had the chance to meet with the SLCNG, it is really important that landlords are at the centre of helping tackle anti-social behaviour. I have links with OPTIMA and other housing associations in Birmingham which now work through the SLCNG to help tackle anti-social behaviour.

“As part of my job as a constituency MP I regularly come face to face with cases of anti-social behaviour and I understand the demoralising effect it can have on those at the receiving end. I try to take a proactive approach to tackling anti-social behaviour in my constituency by working closely with the local police and social housing providers; it is really good to see social landlords working together through the SLCNG to achieve the best results for their tenants.

“I believe everyone should have the right to live peacefully in their own home and I know myself and the SLCNG will continue to work hard to achieve this end.”
