There are three categories: bands; solo artists and; under-18s. One act will be nominated from each category. Deadline for entries is 16 March 2012.

The competition is being supported by musicians such as Alice Cooper, Deep Purple’s Ian Gillan and Blink 182’s Mark Hoppus. Prizes include music equipment; a chance to play at high profile festivals; and mingle with the great and the good of the music industry. Successful nominees will go forward to the national competition which will be judged by a panel of international music industry experts and musicians and the finalists will be announced on Friday 18th May. The finalists will take part in a battle of the bands to determine the winner on Wednesday 30th May and the winner in each category will perform live at a final competition reception on the Terrace at the House Of Commons in the evening.

Steve said:
“Music is a universal experience, it doesn’t matter what your background is; music ties us all together. It is therefore important that we nurture and celebrate the local talent in our constituency and maybe even give someone their big break.”

“With album sales declining I think it is important to remind people what is so exciting about new and interesting music, and I hope that Rock The House will help promote those acts who may not normally have got the exposure that they deserve.”
