Steve celebrates the Big Pedal with schoolchildren and staff

Steve joined students and staff of Colmore Junior School to celebrate the last day of The Big Pedal

Pupils at Colmore Junior School in Kings Heath were visited by Steve McCabe MP today, who urged them on in the final day of the Big Pedal competition.

The Big Pedal is the UK’s biggest schools cycling event led by the charity Sustrans. Colmore Primary School is one of 1,200 schools UK-wide that has spent the last three weeks competing against each other to get the most pupils and teachers cycling or scooting to school.

Children at Colmore Primary have completed over 1,000 journeys to and from school on two-wheels during the course of three weeks.

Steve McCabe said “The Big Pedal is a great way to get more pupils cycling to and from school.

“There are understated health benefits for pupils to travel to school in this way, whilst many will enjoy the independence.

“I’m confident that staff and students will clock up even more miles when the next Big Pedal comes along.”
