Steve visits Selly Oak Nursery School to celebrate decision on future

Steve visited Selly Oak Nursery School last week. The event marked the official re-launch of the school following years of uncertainty over its’ future.

Steve joined children, staff and governors at the official re-launch of Selly Oak Nursery School last week.

The event celebrated the decision by Birmingham City Council to support the day-to-day running of the nursery. The judgement follows years of wrangling between governors and Birmingham City Council over the future of the nursery.

Governors contacted Steve in 2010 to secure his support for their plight. Council officials and governors settled on a negotiated solution whereby Selly Oak Nursery School would attain Trust status, thereby securing its long term future, whilst Birmingham City Council would support staff in the day-to-day running of the nursery.

Steve said “I’m delighted to see the future of Selly Oak Nursery School settled once and for all.

“The school has an excellent track record of providing outstanding teaching and an innovative approach to educating pupils about the environment.

“I hope the arrangements they have arrived at will secure their future for the next hundred years even though we all know there are tough times ahead.”
