Steve McCabe MP has called on the Government to take responsibility for their failed economic policies and put the British economy and British jobs first.

News that the Government has unexpectedly had to borrow £600m in July, traditionally a good month for tax receipts, has raised further doubts over the Government’s economic policies.

Analysts suggest the Government could end up borrowing about £30bn more than last year, when official forecasts had suggested borrowing would fall this year.

Steve McCabe said:

“The Government cannot keep hiding behind the disastrous economic experiment. They are failing to reduce the deficit, failing to promote jobs and failing to encourage growth and yet they do nothing.”

“Hardworking people in my constituency are struggling as the cost of living continues to rise. People are being hit from all angles, whether it is the cost of fuel, increases in rail fares or stagnated wages. This Government is showing its true colours, they give a tax cut to millionaires while sticking to a plan that is failing to bring jobs and growth to ordinary people.”
