Steve leads fight against increasing energy bills

Steve held a ‘save money on your energy bills’ advice day on Friday 12th October 2012 at The Hub (Hazelwell), Vicarage Road, Kings Heath.

British Gas; E.On; Scottish Power; Co-operative Energy; Carillion; Ebico; Home Heat Helpline; Energy Helpline; uSwitch; Squashed Bills; National Energy Action; Waterloo Housing; Freshwinds and Citizens Advice Bureau gave constituents advice and support on saving energy and money throughout the day.

Questionnaires were handed out to constituents to get feedback on the event. 100% found the day “useful”; whilst 87.5% pledged to take action to save energy. With these results in mind, Steve felt sure that exhibitors have helped many of those who attended save energy and money. If you came to the event, and didn’t get a chance to fill one in, please contact Steve’s office on 0121 443 3911 for a questionnaire (you can return this free of charge).

The event could not have come at a more appropriate time. Four out of the ‘big six’ energy companies have recently announced an increase in the price of their energy. The first to announce a rise, Scottish and Southern Electric, told customers they could expect a 9% rise in the price of both gas and electricity. British Gas followed suit, announcing a 6% increase; as did npower (9%) and Scottish Power (up to 8.7%).

Speaking after the event, Steve said:

“Taking decisive action by switching supplier, changing tariffs or taking measures to insulate homes could well help everybody save money when the increase in the cost of energy kicks in.

“I’ve had some excellent feedback from constituents who now feel much more confident in taking action to save money and energy."
