Steve McCabe MP gets involved as Parliament Week comes to Birmingham!

Steve McCabe celebrates democracy in Birmingham by encouraging local students to take part in Parliament Week 2012.

Parliament Week is an annual event which aims to build greater awareness of and engagement with parliamentary democracy in the UK. Parliament Week is organised by the House of Commons and House of Lords and takes place between 19-25 November.

Steve will be visiting schools in his constituency to speak to students about his work in Parliament and his role as an MP. Steve is starting Parliament Week early and will be visiting Wheelers Lane Technology College in his constituency this week to meet with citizenship students to discuss local campaigns they are working on and talk about votes at 16.

Schools and students can take part by attending one of the many Parliament Week events happening across the country. Find out about activities in Parliament and in your region by going to the official Parliament Week website www.parliamentweek.organd by watching the live screening of the UK Youth Parliament from the House of Commons on Friday 23rd November.

Steve said:

“I am pleased to support this exciting initiative exploring how democracy affects citizens and how they can participate in it.

“I often find that when I speak to young people about politics I am energised by their fresh take on things, I am looking forward to hearing what they think about votes for 16 and 17 year olds . I am sure the debate will be just as tough as those in the Commons!”
