Steve pledges support for White Ribbon Campaign UK

Steve McCabe MP, Birmingham Selly Oak, has pledged his support for the White Ribbon Campaign UK, which is part of a global campaign to ensure men take more responsibility for reducing the level of violence towards women.

Steve is helping to raise awareness of the issue as part of White Ribbon Day on 25 November, a day which is also recognised as the United Nations’ International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

The White Ribbon Campaign UK argues that public policy must take the lead in supporting educational programmes that seek to challenge discriminatory attitudes and practices at an early age. Public policy must support prevention work that seeks to discourage discriminatory attitudes and the crimes that contribute to men’s violence. More provision for this kind of work will help to reduce the estimated cost of domestic violence.

Steve said:

“It is really important to raise awareness of this campaign, everyone wants to see the end of violence against women and men must play a big part in making that aim a reality.

“I will be wearing a white ribbon on the 25th November to show my support for the campaign and I hope to see many others join me.”
