Steve McCabe asks Government to Support Diabetes UK’s 4 Ts Campaign

Steve McCabe has signed an Early Day Motion urging the Government to support Diabetes UK’s 4 Ts campaign to raise awareness amongst everyone looking after or working with children and young people in the main signs and symptoms of Type 1 diabetes.

It is vital that Type 1 diabetes is diagnosed quickly, only around 9% of parents can recognise all the main symptoms of Type 1 – the 4 Ts of diabetes:

Toilet, Thirsty, Tired, Thinner

There are 29,000 children and young people with diabetes in the UK and the vast majority have Type 1. Every year, another 2,000 are diagnosed, and this number is increasing.

The shocking fact is that 1 in 4 of these children were not diagnosed until they were seriously ill. This is traumatic for children and their families, and expensive for the NHS.

Steve said:

“Early diagnoses of Type 1 diabetes is essential to managing the condition, the longer it goes undiagnosed the more damage it will do. This is why it is so important to raise awareness of the symptoms amongst parents and those working with children and young.

“Please remember the 4 Ts: Toilet, Thirsty, Tired and Thinner. The more people that recognise the signs means more people will be diagnosed earlier.”
