Steve asks Treasury Minister: “Is cutting maternity pay part of the Government’s strategy to support stable families?”

During Treasury Questions last week, Steve asked David Gauke MP, the Minister responsible for taxation and HMRC, “is cutting maternity pay part of the Government’s strategy to support stable families?”

Steve’s question followed an earlier remark by Mr Gauke, in which he said that the Government is committed to stable families and proposals “to recognise marriage through the tax and benefits system”.

Steve said:

“The Minister couldn’t answer my point and the concerns of many who will struggle to get by when maternity pay is cut in real terms over the next three years.
