Steve McCabe pledges to support people with bowel cancer in Birmingham

Steve has committed to work with patients and the local NHS to ensure high quality and safe care is secured for all bowel cancer patients in Birmingham.

Steve met with bowel cancer patients and the charity Beating Bowel Cancer to talk about the importance of good experiences for all patients as part of their campaign, Be Loud, Be Clear. The campaign is pushing for higher standards and better care for bowel cancer patients

Beating Bowel Canceris a leading UK charity for people affected by bowel cancer. They are dedicated to saving lives by working in partnership to improve public awareness of bowel cancer and to increase the rate of early diagnosis. They help patients access the treatment they need and provide emotional and practical support to improve the lives of everyone affected by bowel cancer.

Steve McCabe MP, said:“I think it is really important to raise awareness of bowel cancer and ensure people are diagnosed as early as possible, especially as it is the UK’s second biggest cancer killer. I hope to work with the local NHS to ensure they are providing the ‘gold standard’ when it comes to treating bowel cancer patients.”

Mark Flannagan, Chief Executive of Beating Bowel Cancer, said:“We strongly believe that patient experience should be an integral part of the NHS and it is vital that better care is secured for all bowel cancer patients.

“We know of many cases where patients simply aren’t getting the level of care they need. We are therefore pleased to launch our Service Pledge as a measure of how hospitals should be providing a good experience to the bowel cancer patients they treat.”
