Steve McCabe MP expresses dismay at decision to refuse ASDA Stirchley Plans

Steve McCabe MP is concerned and disappointed that the Planning Inspectorate chose to refuse ASDA’s appeal for the former ArvinMeritor site between Pershore Road and Fordhouse Lane in Stirchley.

ASDA’s plans for a Stirchley store were initially refused by Birmingham City Council Planning Committee but they appealed this decision to the Planning Inspectorate.

Now the decision by the Planning Inspectorate to refuse this appeal means that ASDA are dropping all plans for the site leaving the future of the derelict site unknown once again.

Steve said:

“This decision does not have Stirchley’s best interests at heart. Officers at Birmingham City Council want to reserve this land for industrial use but they are living in a fantasy world.

“Stirchley needs regeneration, jobs and developments and ASDA would have brought this. However, we are now years down the line and not one single job has been created.

“I would really like to know what the Council has planned for this land now as Stirchley residents will not stand for more delays and neither will I.”
