Steve McCabe MP and local campaigner Dee Smyth visit Stirchley Library to support the Summer Reading Challenge

Steve McCabe and local Bournville campaigner Dee Smyth paid a visit to Stirchley library to donate children’s books and show their support for the Summer Reading Campaign.

Stirchley library is one of the many public libraries in the UK to have teamed up with the Reading Agency to take part in the Summer Reading Challenge to promote reading during the summer for primary school children. Stirchley librarians, David Mann and Julienne Butt were pleased to tell Steve that 80 children have signed up to the initiative, aged between 5-11 years old.

“It was great to see so many parents and children taking advantage of the Summer Reading Challenge at Stirchley library and thoroughly enjoying this year’s Creepy House theme. It’s a great initiative that gets children into the library to discover the joys of reading and benefit from their local library activities.

“The Summer Reading Challenge is also a fantastic opportunity for children to build their literacy skills which is invaluable for every child.”
