Steve McCabe MP urges local sports club to bid for a share of Olympic Legacy funding

Following the success of Kings Heath Cricket and Sports Club, who secured £35,000 funding from Sport England, Steve McCabe is urging local sports clubs to make a bid for the Olympic Legacy fund.

To commemorate the Olympics, Sport England has announced a £40 million extension to its Inspired Facilities Olympic and Paralympic Legacy fund until 2017 which would enable local sports clubs to improve or refurbish their facilities.

In order to be considered eligible for a grant, applicants are expected to demonstrate how their projects will attract more people to sport, explain what is needed by the local community and how it will cover its running costs and remain open for years to come. In particular, Sport England are looking for projects or organisations that have not previously received a sports Lottery grant over £10,000 and are the only public sports facility in their community. Bids will be accepted for the next round of Inspired Facilities funding from 21 October 2013, for more information, please visit: www.sportengland.org/inspiredfacilities.

Steve McCabe said:

“At a time when the council are making cuts to sports and leisure services I believe this funding presents a fantastic opportunity for grassroots sports clubs and organisations to upgrade or refurbish their sporting facilities and to develop sport in their local area. It is really importance that sports clubs in Birmingham get involved and I have been contacting sports clubs in my constituency to encourage them to take advantage and bid for the available funding.”
