Steve McCabe MP makes pledge in the fight against dementia

Steve has pledged to take action to support the 800,000 people living with dementia across the UK.

Alzheimer’s Society campaigners launched their Dementia Friends initiative in February earlier this year. Dementia Friends aims to help people understand what it might be like to live with dementia and turn that understanding into action. Alzheimer’s Society is aiming to have one million Dementia Friends by 2015, to help make England more dementia-friendly and improve the lives of the 650,000 people currently living with the condition.

Steve McCabe joined the Alzheimer’s Society to pledge his support for people with dementia and their carers. Steve promised to visit an Alzheimer’s Society service and meet constituents living with dementia.

Steve McCabe MP said: “One in three people over 65 will develop dementia; this is an health issue we can no longer afford to ignore.

“I have been doing lots of work on social care and care for the elderly in my constituency and raising these issues in Parliament. Support for people with dementia, and their carers, is really important and we must do more to help them and raise awareness of the condition. Dementia Friends is a great initiative and I hope they reach their target of one million Dementia Friends by 2015.”
