Freeze that Bill!

Steve McCabe MP will be out talking to people in his Selly Oak constituency this Saturday about challenges they are facing with rising energy bills and Ed Miliband’s plans to freeze energy bills until 2017.

Under David Cameron gas and electricity bills have gone up by £300 for the average household and prices have increased ahead of wages in 38 of the 39 months that David Cameron has been in Downing Street.

Ed Miliband says Labour will freeze prices until the start of 2017 if Labour wins the next election and will use this time to reset the energy market and break up the big energy companies so that we can all get a fair deal.

The price freeze will save a typical household £120 and an average business £1,800.

Steve McCabe has also been raising concerns about new rules forcing energy companies to reduce the number of tariffs they offer. Pensioners have been contacting Steve to express their anger at energy companies getting rid of special pensioner tariffs, this means these tariff reforms will be increasing their bills!

Steve McCabe MP said:

“Nine in ten people will not benefit from Cameron’s promise to put people on the lowest tariff. The government’s policy is having the opposite affect and increasing the bills of the most vulnerable.  What we need are solutions, not tinkering with the market.

“This is why I will be out on Saturday speaking to people about their energy bills and Labour’s plans to freeze prices for 20 months.”
