Steve McCabe MP celebrates The Hub’s 10 year anniversary

Steve McCabe MP shows his support for The Hub, Hazelwell by joining in with local celebrations to mark the centre’s 10 year anniversary.

Opened in 2003, The Hub has played an important role in the local community by providing vocational courses aimed at boosting people’s confidence and employment prospects and offering practical developmental support to local small businesses and community groups. The Hub also provides leisure activities for all ages including dance, yoga and aerobic classes.

Sadly, the first Chair of trustees, Canon Alan Priestley, passed away earlier this year. Alan was instrumental in establishing The Hub, the completion of the building and the day to day running for most of its first decade, making The Hub a valued centre in the community. To recognise the fantastic work that Alan did, Steve unveiled a plaque in Alan’s name. In remembrance of him and his dedication to the success of The Hub, The Conference Room on the first floor will now be known as ‘The Alan Priestley Room.’

Steve McCabe MP said:

“I would like to congratulate The Hub on providing a much needed and well respected local centre for the last ten years. It is a pleasure to support the work of The Hub and also the work of the trustees, the staff who run the centre and the many people and organisations who use the facilities.

“Canon Alan Priestley was a valued member of the community who played a key role in making The Hub what it is today and I felt honoured to unveil a plaque in his name. I am sure that the success of The Hub will continue for many years to come.”
