Campaigners call for freeze in Beer Duty Escalator

Steve McCabe MP met with campaigners to celebrate last year’s historic cut in beer duty in the Budget and make the case for a freeze in this year’s Budget.

The British Beer & Pub Association (BBPA), Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) and the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) celebrated campaigners, who supported Britain’s national drink during 2013, especially their support in scrapping the Beer Duty Escalator, which lead to the momentous cut in Beer Duty.  Campaigners were treated to a truly unique new beer brewed especially for the occasion.

Brewing and pubs are vital to the local economy in every part of the country. All three bodies have joined forces again this year, and are campaigning for a freeze in duty in this year’s Budget on 19th March.

Steve McCabe MP said:

“I was really impressed by the impact of the campaign on the chancellor’s decision to cut the Beer Duty Escalator last year but now I am calling on him to freeze beer duty at the budget in March. An increase in beer duty will just undermine last year’s cut. We don’t want to see growth threatened in the industry and struggling community pubs put at risk.”
