“Fall in inflation welcome but people are still struggling to make ends meet” Says Steve McCabe MP

The Office for National Statistics said today the UK’s inflation rate, as measured by the consumer prices index, fell to 1.9% in January.

Inflation, as measured by the Retail Prices Index rose to 2.8% from 2.7% in December.

Commenting on the inflation figures, Steve McCabe MP said:

“This fall in inflation is welcome but my constituents are telling me they are still struggling to make ends meet. Prices are still rising much faster than wages.

“Inflation, as measured by the Retail Prices Index, actually rose by 0.1% which will affect how much money people have in their pockets. The Government seem to be favouring the figure which suits them and not the prices ordinary people have to pay.”
