Steve McCabe MP calls on constituents to vote for St Mary’s Hospice to help secure a £50,000

Steve McCabe MP is calling for constituents to vote for St Mary's Hospice this coming weekend in the Great British Switch campaign, which has been shortlisted to be awarded a £50,000 donation in recognition of the work they do in our local community.

From Friday 12 September, voting will open between St Mary's Hospice and the five other shortlisted charities. This follows a public nomination campaign across the UK using the #greatbritishswitch hashtag on twitter and on the Metro website during which over 1,000 nominations were made. The shortlisted charities were then selected by an expert panel of judges, including TV housing expert, Phil Spencer, and Chairman of Neighbourhood Watch, Jim Maddan.

The £50,000 award is being offered by comparethemarket.com as a part of its work to promote stronger neighbourhoods across the UK. Voting is open to all UK residents and is a cost-free opportunity to see if participants can make savings by changing their home insurance provider as a part of the Great British Switch. The charity with the most support at the end of the weekend will be awarded the £50,000 donation.

Steve McCabe MP said:

“St Mary's Hospice is a local cause worthy of recognition for its invaluable services to the people of Birmingham, Selly Oak. Not only do we have a chance to showcase its good work on the national stage, the Great British Switch initiative is offering significant new funding for the charity that gains the most votes this weekend. I have visited St Mary’s Hospice many times and have been very impressed with the vital work they do, I encourage all constituents to get involved and cast their vote for St Mary's Hospice. ”
