Unemployment UP in Selly Oak constituency

Selly Oak MP is taking action on jobs and employment as latest figures released today reveal the number of people in Birmingham Selly Oak constituency claiming Job Seeker’s Allowance has risen on last month.

Statistics reveal that 4.9% of the economically active population in Selly Oak are now claiming Job Seeker’s Allowance compared to 4.7% in August 2014. Selly Oak constituency continues to remain in the top 20% of constituencies for unemployment across the country.

Steve McCabe MP is taking matters in to his own hands to help local people find work and is hosting a Jobs Fair at Moseley Rugby Club in Billesley on Thursday 13 November. Local jobseekers are invited to come along and speak to employers advertising live vacancies, training providers and advice organisations.

Steve McCabe MP said:

It is very worrying that while nationally unemployment has fallen, the number of people out of work and claiming Job Seeker’s Allowance in my constituency has actually risen. It is clear that David Cameron’s recovery is not working for everyone and that is why I have joined forces with local councillors in my area to put on a Jobs Fair.

“We need local jobs for local people and I am working hard to help deliver this.”
