Baverstock Academy campaign for universal education taken to Parliament

Steve McCabe MP met up with Jim Murphy MP, Labour’s former Shadow Secretary for International Development to hand over letters from Baverstock students calling for access to education for all children across the world.

Steve met with students from Baverstock earlier this year and the students spoke about their involvement in the Send All My Friends to School Campaign run by the Global Campaign for Education. The campaign is urging countries around the world to honour their commitment to the Millennium Development Goals which pledged to ensure children around the world get to go to school and have an education no matter where they live.

As promised Steve took Baverstock’s campaign to Parliament and quizzed Jim Murphy on what Labour is doing to make sure the UK does what it can to ensure the Millennium Development Goals are met.

Steve McCabe MP said:

“Jim was really pleased to receive the letters from Baverstock students calling for education for all children around the world, this is an issue that Labour takes seriously and our International Development Team are working hard to press the Government on these important goals.

“Next year the international community will publish a new set of goals for the next 15 years and I hope education for children across the world will be at the heart of our goals for the future.”
