Local MP gets reassurance from Tesco Chief that Stirchley Store will go ahead as planned

Steve McCabe MP, Birmingham Selly Oak, has been in touch with Tesco’s Chief Executive Dave Lewis regarding the new Tesco store in Stirchley. The Tesco Chief has today told Steve that despite financial difficulties the supermarket will be pressing ahead with the development in Stirchley, bringing much needed investment and jobs to the area.

Tesco have announced today that due to financial difficulties it will close 43 unprofitable stores across the UK and is also shelving plans to open a further 49 new ‘very large’ stores. Fortunately the Stirchley is not one of those 49 and the development will still go ahead as planned.

Local MP, Steve McCabe said:

“I am relieved to hear that despite Tesco’s financial problems they will be honouring their commitment and the new store in Stirchley will go ahead as planned. This site has been waiting for development for over 10 years now and I am anxious to see the site regenerated, bringing much needed jobs and investment into the area.”
