Steve McCabe MP pledges his support for the ARMA Manifesto

Steve McCabe MP (Birmingham, Selly Oak) is backing the Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Alliance’s (ARMA) new Manifesto calling for improved health and care services for people living with all forms of arthritis and musculoskeletal conditions.

Musculoskeletal conditions affect over 10 million people in the UK, and account for up to 30% of GP visits. These conditions include osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, back pain and inflammatory forms of arthritis such as rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis. People with these conditions often experience a great deal of pain and a loss of mobility. Many also find it difficult to remain in or return to work as a result.

ARMA is calling on the Government to ensure that all those living with these conditions get the best possible care. This includes better training on musculoskeletal conditions for GPs, a greater emphasis on Rehabilitation, reablement and self-management and a fairer and more transparent disability benefits system. It is also calling for all people with a musculoskeletal condition to be offered a care and support plan.

Speaking about the Manifesto, Steve McCabe MP said:

“There continues to be a worrying lack of awareness about musculoskeletal conditions despite affecting over 10 million people in the UK. I welcome and support ARMA’s manifesto which offers some very practical and achievable recommendations for how we can improve care for the millions of people living with these conditions.”
