Save our local bank branch in Bournville!

Steve McCabe MP is backing calls from local people and businesses in Bournville to keep their local Lloyds bank branch in the community.

Steve has been contacted by many constituents who live in Bournville after they received a letter from Lloyds Bank informing them that their local Branch located on Sycamore Road in the heart of Bournville, is due to be closed in May.

No explanation was provided to customers who use the service and they have been advised by Lloyds to go to the Selly Oak branch which would be difficult for many elderly and disabled people who rely on the bank for its prime location. The Selly Oak Lloyds branch is located at a busy junction and there is limited parking which would have implications for many local people. Neither Steve nor his constituents were consulted on the decision and Steve is demanding answers from the Chief Executive of Lloyds Banking Group.

Businesses in Bournville Green have also expressed concerns about the impact the closure of the bank will have on trade as many local people withdraw cash from the branch to spend in local shops. Bournville village was created by the Cadbury family and as part of their vision the Green should have a bank for the local community.

Steve McCabe MP said:

“I am concerned that as the local MP, neither I nor my constituents have been consulted on this decision. The Bournville Lloyds branch is well used by local people and I think that they deserve to have their say which is why I am calling on Lloyds Banking Group to reconsider the decision to close the branch and listen to what local people want.”
