Steve McCabe MP nominates local favourite, Dilshad in MPs Tiffin Cup Competition

Selly Oak’s very own Dilshad restaurant has been nominated by Selly Oak MP, Steve McCabe in the annual MP’s Tiffin Cup competition.

The competition seeks to find the best South Asian restaurant in Britain;nominees are put forward by their local MPs. Based in Selly Oak, Dilshad was nominated by Steve and accepted as a regional qualifier for the Tiffin Cup.

Established in 1978, Dilshad boasts an array of fantastic South Asian cuisine which locals have enjoyed for nearly 40 years. Manager, Syeem Azadi worked in his father’s restaurant since he was 16 years old and told Steve that he was really pleased Dilshad was being recognised given its rich and long history in Selly Oak.

The Tiffin Cup competitionstarted in 2006 and is renowned for attracting high quality judges. One restaurant from every region is shortlisted and invited to participate in the Grand Final cook-off event held in the House of Commons, as judged by MPs and guest celebrities. The competition is sponsored by Lycamobile and is run in aid of ‘World Vision’, a development charity that works with communities to overcome poverty.

Steve McCabe MP said:

“I am very pleased to nominate local favourite, Dilshad in this year’s Tiffin Cup Competition.

Selly Oak has many brilliant South Asian restaurants but I was keen to put Dilshad forward for the Tiffin Cup award because of its history in Selly Oak and more importantly, they offer a variety of delicious curries from different regions in South Asia. I hope that the hard to please judges recognise the quality South Asian food that Dilshad produce every day here in Selly Oak.”
