Job opportunity with Steve McCabe MP in Westminster: Parliamentary Intern (part-time)

Job Title: Parliamentary Intern

6 Months Fixed Term Contract, 2 days per week (Tuesday and Wednesday)

Based at Westminster

Salary: London Living Wage (in line with IPSA pay scales)



Steve McCabe MP is looking to recruit a Parliamentary Intern to assist him in his busy Westminster Office.

Main Responsibilities - the successful applicant will be expected to:

·  Draft Parliamentary Questions and briefings to support Steve’s work as MP for Birmingham Selly Oak

·  Research local and national issues to support the Member's work

·  Prepare and edit correspondence, communications and other documents

·  Draft press releases, social media posts and articles

·  Communicate effectively with both internal and external contacts

·  To liaise with the constituency office to progress casework and policy work through liaison with local and national bodies, government agencies and others

·  Be a team player but able to lead on tasks and undertake independent work


The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate:

·  Excellent research and writing skills reflecting attention to detail

·  Effective communication and people skills

·  Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks

·  Excellent time management skills

·  Confidence and ability to interact effectively with members of the public, community groups and other stakeholders

·  Competent use of Microsoft IT

·  Will be sympathetic to the aims and objectives of the Labour Party
