Steve McCabe MP calls on government to end fuel poverty

Steve McCabe MP is calling on the government to end fuel poverty and make home insulation a national priority.

During winter, hundreds of local families on low incomes struggled to heat their homes and Steve has joined his Labour colleagues in calling on the government to tackle this recurring problem by making home insulation a national priority.

Action to stop heat leaking out of homes through doors, walls and windows can cut a household’s energy bill by hundreds of pounds a year. A major home insulation programme would also generate thousands of new jobs, improved public health and reduce pollution levels.

Under the current government, investment in home insulation has been dramatically cut. The number of house being made more efficient is expected to fall by almost 80%. George Osborne’s policies will leave many families and pensioners stuck paying over the odds for their energy bills.

Steve McCabe MP said:

“I’m calling on the government to end fuel poverty by making home insulation a priority. I think it’s a scandal that in 2016, many families and elderly people are left with cold homes during winter because of the lack of investment by the government to make sure each home in Britain is properly insulated.”
