Steve tours lottery funded projects to offer his support

Steve McCabe MP has visited a number of Big Lottery Fund projects in Selly Oak constituency to offer his support. BIG has provided nearly £1 million worth of financial support to the constituency in recent years. Steve visited Birmingham Association of Youth Clubs (BAYC), who was funded £358,843 to develop sustainable infrastructure capacity and services for voluntary organisation that support young people, across the West Midlands.

Chief Executive of BAYC Cheryl Garvey, described how the project, called G:UP has worked for three years supporting these organisations using Lottery money.

Also funded nearby is the Brandwood Centre Community Association. The team at the centre are using a £8,100 Awards for All grant to provide equipment and deliver sessions with isolated Asian women in the local area. The project provides new recreational and skills based activities.

John Taylor, Head of Region for the Big Lottery Fund (BIG) said: “It was excellent to visit these Lottery funded projects in  the Selly Oak constituency, to see the variety of things that BIG supports and to hear about the good work they are doing in the local area to support people, young and old, who are most in need.”

Steve McCabe commented: “There are a number of excellent small projects locally delivering vital services for people in need. What these projects all depend on is a bit of cash to get them off the ground and keep them going. The Big Lottery Fund has helped do that and it was inspiring to see the work that they were doing.”
