Ahead of the Autumn Budget next week, Steve McCabe MP has been asking constituents how the rising cost of living is affecting them. The MP is particularly concerned about the continued rise in food prices after his survey revealed that food shopping is causing the greatest pressure on household budgets, closely followed by the cost of energy bills.

 

The MP’s survey revealed that over three quarters of constituents (78%) said their wages have not kept pace with inflation and 80% of people said rising prices are an issue for their family.

 

This Equal Pay Day, Steve McCabe MP (Birmingham Selly Oak) has pledged to push for the enforcement of gender pay gap reporting.

 

The Planning Committee have accepted Aldi’s proposal to vary the conditions attached to the planning permission granted in 2008 to build its Maypole Store and 22 flats, to drop the condition that 8 out of the 22 flats are rented as affordable housing. Aldi argue that because of the cost of developing the flats and the economic downturn in 2008 it is no longer economically viable to keep the affordable housing element.
