In a unanimous cross-party report published today, Wednesday 11 November 2015, the Commons Work and Pensions Committee says in the absence of any satisfactory mitigation of tax credit cuts, the Government should pause for a year and plan for a major overhaul of the tax credit system.

Steve McCabe MP, who is a member of the Work and Pensions Select Committee has said that the measures for those who would be helped are “dwarfed” by the cuts. As things stand the majority of families affected will still be worse off by 2020-21.

As the cold weather is starting to set in, Steve McCabe MP is offering information and advice to his constituents about being prepared for winter weather and in particular flooding.

As the Member of Parliament for Selly Oak I’ve seen the quality of privately rented, accommodation deteriorate in this area over several years; at the very time when others involved in student accommodation are rightly demanding higher standards. That’s why I’m calling for a crackdown on rogue landlords and cowboy builders.

At business questions, Steve McCabe MP asked the Leader of the House for a debate on the Government’s plans to cut energy feed-in tariffs and the reports that this will cost 20,000 jobs, devastate the rooftop solar industry and lead to 1 million fewer solar power installations by 2020.

Steve McCabe, MP for Birmingham, Selly Oak, joined families and campaigners to highlight the issue of critical neonatal staff shortages following the latest report from special care baby charity Bliss.

The report shows that there is a severe shortage of neonatal nurses and doctors, meaning neonatal units are not meeting national standards on safe staffing levels for premature and sick babies.
