Steve McCabe MP has tabled a Parliamentary Question to the Government demanding answers on the universal free school meals policy for infants aged 5 to 7 years old.

Steve has expressed concerns about the fact that the Department for Education will not comment on reports that axing universal free school meals is under consideration, just a year after the policy was implemented by the coalition government.

On Friday 18 September, Steve McCabe MP opened Yardley Wood Primary School’s new facilities, a two year refurbishment project in the making.

On Friday 11th September over 450 MPs attended the House of Commons for the debate on the Private Member’s, Assisted Dying (No2) Bill sponsored by my parliamentary colleague Rob Marris, the Member of Parliament for Wolverhampton South West.

Steve McCabe MP (Birmingham, Selly Oak), has joined with Breast Cancer Now to show his support for women with breast cancer by dressing up in pink and encouraging people across the constituency  to take part in  ‘wear it pink’, on Friday 23rd October.

Steve McCabe MP and student representatives from the University of Birmingham are calling for safe student accommodation in Selly Oak.

Steve McCabe has met with Tesco representatives to discuss the future of the proposed Stirchley super-store.


Tesco have told Steve that the continuing financial difficulties affecting the company means that they are unable to give a start date for the store this year but are still fully committed to the project. 



This Friday 11 September, Maypole Youth Centre are hosting a careers fair at All Saints Church Centre, Kings Heath. Drop in between 2-4pm.


The careers fair is for 16 – 19 year olds and people up to 25 years old with learning or physical difficulties and is a chance to talk about getting into work or training.


Steve McCabe MP Birmingham, Selly Oak, has voiced his opposition to the government’s proposed Trade Union Bill.  The bill, which has been described as the ‘the biggest crack down on workers’ rights for 30 years’  seeks to dramatically reduce the power of unions to take strike action.

Included in the Bill are plans to effectively criminalise picketing and permit employers to hire strike-breaking agency staff.

Steve McCabe MP has welcomed news that traffic calming measures will be put in place to tackle speeding on Gibbins Road in Selly Oak.

The Government is failing to honour its promise to ensure that local mental health spending increases across the country this year, new figures obtained by Labour reveal.

Data obtained by Labour show that Birmingham CrossCity Clinical Commissioning Group has decreased the proportion of their total budget to mental health compared with last year.
