During the Budget debate on the 21 March 2013, Steve intervened to throw doubt on the Chancellor’s latest plans to revive Britain’s ailing economy; as public austerity continues to bite.

Steve called on the Chancellor to use targeted investment to help buoy the economy, and to bring forward the £3 billion lift in capital spending announced in the Budget forward to the current financial year.

 

More people than ever aged 60 or over own the Railcard which was launched in 1975. The railcard offers a third off the cost of most standard and first class train tickets on the National Rail network.

Steve McCabe gave his support for charities contributing to “Recipes for Success”, a book which shares the experiences of 14 charities who have worked with the NHS to improve patient services. The book aims to help other charities who are considering similar partnerships.

 

With the weather unseasonably cold and the recent news that Britain is dangerously close to exhausting its gas supplies; I’ve compiled a ‘shopping list’ of free or subsidised help provided by British Gas (the country’s largest energy provider) for its customers.

Steve joined an Ofgem drive last week to increase the take-up of free services available from energy suppliers. These services are available to vulnerable people who sign up to the Priority Service Register (PSR).

 

Steve has written to the Chair of Birmingham South Central Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) to back South Birmingham GP walk-in Centre following reports that the service could be axed.

 

In his letter, Steve calls for patients to be placed at the centre of decision-making on the future shape of medical services in the city.

 

Steve McCabe has pledged to support the right of older people to access high quality specialist housing and care, without sacrificing their fundamental rights to choice, aspiration, independence and community.

Steve committed to working with older people to support them in making the right move at the right time; retaining their right to their own front door, whilst making plans for a safe and supported retirement.

Steve McCabe MP, Birmingham Selly Oak, held a busy meeting of Stirchley residents for an update from Tesco about the planned store on Hazelwell Lane.

 

Steve asked representatives from Tesco to come to a meeting with local residents to answer some of their questions and address their concerns as many residents are frustrated about the lack of action caused by legal battles.

 

Steve McCabe MP has expressed dismay as a motion put forward by Labour to introduce greater fairness into the tax system is voted down.

 

Steve McCabe, MP for Birmingham Selly Oak, is encouraging thousands of smokers in the area to ‘swap fags for swag’ by quitting on No Smoking Day on Wednesday 13 March.
