Hunger and malnutrition in childhood will trap almost a billion people in poverty by 2025, according to the major new campaign, launched by Britain’s leading development charities and faith groups.   The group warns that in a world where there is enough food for everyone, the scandal of children growing up hungry also imposes a grave economic burden on the developing world, costing £78 billion over the next 15 years.

On Friday 17th December 2012, I visited Elim Church Centre in Selly Oak to view the latest plans for the former Battery Park site in Selly Oak (off Bristol Road and Harborne Lane).

Wheelers Lane Boys School and Selly Park Girls School voted overwhelmingly in favour, with 78% supporting extending the vote to 16 year olds.


Steve is still keen to hear what other young people in his constituency think and will be bringing the ballot to Kings Heath Boys School this week!

Steve McCabe MP, Birmingham Selly Oak, has asked the Ministry of Defence what they have done to publicise the introduction of the Defence Privilege Card.



Steve has called on the Government to extend the Warm Front scheme following the news that thousands of families are still waiting for assistance.


Thousands of low-income families who have applied for help are yet to receive it; despite the expiry date of the scheme set for this Saturday (19 January). Ministers have also under-spent £50 million on the scheme.

Steve is urging residents in his constituency to pack peace of mind when purchasing their holidays this year, by making sure they book an ATOL-protected trip.



Birmingham Labour MPs clashed with the Local Government Secretary in angry Commons scenes following the announcement of the local government funding settlement. Birmingham stands to lose almost half its council spending power when compared to richer boroughs in the south of the country.


School children from across the Birmingham Selly Oak constituency took part in the annual competition to design Steve McCabe MP’s Christmas card.
