Speaking in the House of Commons, Steve McCabe asked the Minister: ”A Birmingham trust has recently announced that it will be possible to cut 1,000 beds across the city by setting a maximum stay of seven days for most patients.


“ Not surprisingly, this has caused some alarm. Are Ministers aware of that proposal? What guidance, if any, can they offer in regard to such proposals?”


It's a matter of time before there is a serious collision near Birmingham Council's Lifford Lane Depot in Kings Norton, warn local MPs.  Richard Burden MP (Northfield) and Steve McCabe MP (Selly Oak) are calling for urgent action by the City Council to resolve multiple hazards associated with traffic trying to gain access to and from the site.


The Office for National Statistics today released the latest unemployment figures which reveal unemployment nationally has fallen from 6.9% to 6.8% in the three months to March.

Steve McCabe MP is demanding a meeting with Minister of State for Disabled People after being inundated with complaints from vulnerable constituents about the Personal Independent Payment application process.

The scheme is organised by local activist and community campaigner Roger Dennis who has reclaimed the land at the rear of the Brandwood Centre, adjacent to the railway embankment, and is now putting it to good use. It had previously been used as a dumping ground for all sorts of rubbish and had become an overgrown jungle.



The fall in the unemployment rate to 6.9% for the UK as a whole is positive but look a little deeper and the story isn’t so rosy in all parts of the country. Unemployment actually rose in the West Midlands to 8.2% and the number of people claiming Job Seekers Allowance in Birmingham Selly Oak constituency still remains in the top 20% of the country.


With the upcoming centenary of the UK entering the First World War, Steve McCabe MP is urging his constituents to consider applying to the Heritage Lottery Fund for community projects to learn more about the First World War.
