Steve McCabe joined families of missing people to pledge their support  for the charity Missing People’s Missing Rights campaign which is seeking legislative support for families fighting the bureaucracy and heartache of resolving or managing a missing loved one’s affairs.

Steve spoke with Nick Bunker, President UK & Ireland Kraft Foods, about the success of the programme. They were also joined by Richard Whitehead, Cadbury Athlete Ambassador, the current record holder and world champion for leg amputees at the 200m for the T42 category. Over 100 people attended and Cadbury Spots v Stripes volunteers brought the fun of their community events by challenging them all to play Spots v Stripes games!

The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy has produced a report based on Freedom of Information audit of Primary Care Trusts and a survey of physiotherapy managers in England. The ‘Stretched to the Limit’ report finds considerable variation in the amount of time patients have to wait for treatment and highlights concerns that more than half of physiotherapy managers are already experiencing a reduction in patient services in this financial year. Steve said:

Steve also talked about the different functions of an MP, explaining the difference between his parliamentary and constituency role. Steve said: “I think it’s really important that young people have a proper understanding of Parliament, what it does and how this affects them.

Steve McCabe MP comments on the Autumn Statement -  an update by George Osborne on the state of the economy. Steve comments that by 2013 we will end up borrowing more than the crisis economies of Spain, Portugal and Greece; and unemployment will rise. The Chancellor "has run out of excuses," says Steve.

 

The Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) has downgraded GDP growth forecasts to 0.9% for this year, down from 2.3%. The OBR has downgraded its forecasts 4 times in the last 18 months.

 

 

 

Deafness is not a learning disability, yet 65% of deaf children in England fail to achieve 5 GCSE’s grades A*-C, compared to 31.2% of pupils nationally. These figures show an inherent bias against deaf children in our education system. Cuts to programmes which aid deaf children simply add to this bias.
