Steve is supporting a motion put down by the Labour Party asking the Government to reconsider the changes to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme which will see thousands of blameless victims lose out.

Steve has expressed dismay at yet another set of disappointing NHS waiting times statistics, which showed an increase of 1.3% on the previous month.

 

 

 

 

Parliament Week is an annual event which aims to build greater awareness of and engagement with parliamentary democracy in the UK. Parliament Week is organised by the House of Commons and House of Lords and takes place between 19-25 November.

The report, by leading tobacco manufacturer JTI, highlights how some 22.7% of cigarettes smoked in the West Midlands avoid UK tax. This includes ‘cheap whites’ or counterfeits of well-known brands.

 

Commenting on Lord Heseltine’s report published today, Steve McCabe has called for the government to come up with a plan B for the economy that will encourage better growth and job creation.

 

UK Feminista, a movement of ordinary men and women campaigning for gender equality, turned out in force on Wednesday 24 October to lobby MP’s on several issues.The great-granddaughter of Suffragette leader Emmeline Pankhurst branded parliament “an old boys’ club” as she led a feminist march of hundreds of women and men to lobby MPs on women’s equality.

 

Steve McCabe MP joined meningitis victims, celebrities Lisa Snowdon, Ian Rush MBE, Joanna Trollope and Ken Loach and health and teaching professionals in the House of Commons this week to fight back against meningitis as part of the Meningitis Trust’s Meningitis Changes Futures campaign.

 

Steve McCabe joined families of missing people to pledge their support  for the charity Missing People’s Missing Rights campaign which is seeking legislative support for families fighting the bureaucracy and heartache of resolving or managing a missing loved one’s affairs.

Steve spoke with Nick Bunker, President UK & Ireland Kraft Foods, about the success of the programme. They were also joined by Richard Whitehead, Cadbury Athlete Ambassador, the current record holder and world champion for leg amputees at the 200m for the T42 category. Over 100 people attended and Cadbury Spots v Stripes volunteers brought the fun of their community events by challenging them all to play Spots v Stripes games!
