Steve McCabe MP for Birmingham, Selly Oak, is supporting international Crohn’s and Colitis Awareness Week (1-7 December). The week long campaign aims to highlight the impact of living with Crohn’s Disease or Ulcerative Colitis, the two main forms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) which affect more than 300,000 people across the UK.

Steve McCabe MP for Birmingham, Selly Oak has joined campaigners and volunteers from sight loss charity RNIB to try and ensure that everyone diagnosed with sight loss receives practical and emotional support to come to terms with their diagnosis.

Earlier this year Steve McCabe MP met with local residents to discuss their concerns about road safety on Gibbins Road and the Council have now confirmed that they are carrying out a public consultation.

Steve McCabe MP has welcomed the U-Turn by the Chancellor in the Autumn Statement following his announcement that he will not be cutting Working Tax Credits next year, but forgot to mention that he is still planning to restrict Child Tax Credits to two children per family.

 In Steve’s constituency of Selly Oak, 4.1% of people are unemployed compared to 2.4% nationally. This means that the suburban constituency is, quite astonishingly, now in the top 13% of constituencies for unemployment across the whole country. And for those in work, a fifth of people are earning below the Living Wage.

Steve McCabe MP visited National Grid this week to meet up with Interns from Selly Oak Trust School and Queen Alexandra College who are currently doing a placement year at the electricity and gas company.

Over 70 local residents turned out on Saturday 7 November to attend a meeting organised by local MP Steve McCabe (Birmingham Selly Oak) to show support for The Protection of Family Homes (enforcement and permitted development) 10 Minute Rule Bill.

 

Steve McCabe MP for Birmingham, Selly Oak has joined campaigners from the Arrhythmia Alliance to raise awareness of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA), the UK's leading killer. Steve signed a pledge in support of the Arrhythmia Alliance’s ‘Now is the Time’ Manifesto. 

In a unanimous cross-party report published today, Wednesday 11 November 2015, the Commons Work and Pensions Committee says in the absence of any satisfactory mitigation of tax credit cuts, the Government should pause for a year and plan for a major overhaul of the tax credit system.

Steve McCabe MP, who is a member of the Work and Pensions Select Committee has said that the measures for those who would be helped are “dwarfed” by the cuts. As things stand the majority of families affected will still be worse off by 2020-21.
