Steve McCabe, MP for Birmingham, Selly Oak, joined families and campaigners to highlight the issue of critical neonatal staff shortages following the latest report from special care baby charity Bliss.

The report shows that there is a severe shortage of neonatal nurses and doctors, meaning neonatal units are not meeting national standards on safe staffing levels for premature and sick babies.

Amongst its key findings the Bliss baby report 2015 found:

The Government is now proposing to freeze the threshold, meaning students will face paying thousands more.

Figures released today from the Office for National Statistics and House of Commons Library show Selly Oak constituency is now in the top 14% of constituencies for unemployment across the whole country.

Statistics show that 4.1% of people eligible for work in Selly Oak constituency are claiming JSA or Universal Credit, this is compared to just 2.5% across the country.

Steve McCabe MP said:

Steve McCabe has been inundated with planning complaints in recent years. Many people are frustrated at the lack of enforcement action to tackle breaches in planning law by the local Council. Permitted development rights, introduced in 2013, have exacerbated the problem with neighbourhoods blighted with unsightly extensions which are built under the guise of permitted development.
