The event celebrated the West Midlands involvement in the national ‘Sing Up’ project which has helped young people develop their singing skills, activity, and enjoyment through training their teachers and singing leaders.
The day started off with a singing workshop with over 40 Primary Schools from all over the West Midlands, including Cotteridge Primary School, led by West Midlands singing leaders.

The organisation, based in Selly Oak, delivers a range of services encompassing the provision of therapy, advocacy, employment advice, debt counselling and community based initiatives to tackle HIV, substance misuse and crime.

The new Research and Development Centre is bringing 54 new jobs to Bournville, they will work on new products and develop the company’s existing chocolate brands.
Research and Development helps drive the growth in a successful business like Kraft. The new Centre of Excellence for Chocolate Research and Development will develop the technology to make different kinds of chocolate products which will then be commercialised across the whole world, making Bournville theglobal hub of chocolate innovation for Kraft.

If you have qualified for Cold Weather Payments since 1st November 2011 and live in Birmingham, you are due to receive a cold weather payment.

People in receipt of Pension Credit should contact their Pension Centre for more information about Cold Weather Payments.  Those in receipt of Income Support, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance or income-related Employment and Support Allowance should contact their Benefit Centre.  People are advised not to approach the Meteorological Office.

Wake Up Call is a global campaign, run by young people, to raise the concerns of our younger generation with politicians and Governments across the globe.

The main issue on everyone’s minds was the Sainsbury’s proposals for the Selly Oak Battery Site, which has been derelict for many years now. There were particular concerns regarding the road network: especially the problems at the existing Sainsbury’s store and the risk of rat running along Gibbins Road caused by the potential new development.

The event is part of a comprehensive training program for their students, supplemented by on-the-job placements.

In National Heart Month, the BHF encourages people across the UK to think about their own hearts and the hearts of those around them. The nation’s heart charity also needs people across the UK to get involved with National Wear Red Day, and raise vital funds for the charity’s life-saving work.


The unemployment rate for the country was 8.4% in the three months to December 2011, up 0.1% from the three months to September 2011. The number of unemployed people was 2.67 million, up 48,000.
