Steve is calling on Ministers to bring insurance companies back to the table, and secure an insurance scheme for flood-risk properties before the current scheme runs out next July.

Steve’s call follows Environment Agency flood warnings for Sunday and Monday along the River Rea; which runs from the south of the constituency through Stirchley, Ten Acres and Selly Park towards Edgbaston.

Steve has received a letter from the Government’s Planning Inspectorate which states that local opposition to development is not the “determinative factor” when making planning decisions

The above statement from the Planning Inspectorate followed a letter to the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government from Steve; who raised concerns about the decision to allow developers to build an 11.8 metre high telecommunications mast in the heart of leafy Bournville.

Flood Warning for the River Rea at Stirchley, including Cartland Road and Dogpool Lane areas, the Avenues and Sir Johns Road

The environment agency have issued a flood warning for the River Rea at Stirchley. At present there are no reports of property flooding from watercourses, but properties may be at risk.

The Environment Agency is warning residents to stay vigilant over the next few days as heavy rain falls and makes its way through the river systems. We have advised the public to stay away from swollen rivers and not to drive through floodwater.

Steve recently met with Dr Caroline Whalley (CEO) and Hugh Greenway (Managing Director) of the Elliot Foundation to discuss their plans for two primary schools in the constituency.

The Elliot Foundation, a new, not-for-profit organisation; currently serve as the sponsor of Billesley Primary School and hopes to serve Tiverton Junior and Infant School in Selly Oak starting in 2013.

Steve visited Wheelers Lane Technology College and spoke to students doing Citizenship GCSE about campaigns they are working on and asked them what they thought about giving the vote to 16 and 17 year olds.
