Steve McCabe MP is encouraging local schools to put on money lessons this June, to give their pupils a head-start in financial education before it becomes a compulsory part of the new National Curriculum in September.  The move comes in advance of this year’s My Money Week(9 to 15 June), run by national financial education charity pfeg (Personal Finance Education Group).

Steve McCabe MP, Shadow Children and Families Minister has been making his contribution to a city wide consultation on improving mental health services for children and young people in Birmingham which is being led by Clinical Commissioning Groups across Birmingham and Sandwell.

The sewers in Stirchley have been serving the community for many years but there are parts of the system that need improving.  Severn Trent Water started work in January 2014 on 2 large underground storage tanks in land off Pershore Road and Ripple Road. Work is progressing well and the tanks are almost complete.

Steve McCabe MP opened St Alban’s Primary School’s very first bank and offered some wise words about saving.

Older pupils in Year’s 4, 5 and 6 were introduced to the importance of saving money on Friday 28 March 2014. St Alban’s Primary launched HSBC banking services to pupils by assisting them in opening a bank account, each pupil who opened a bank account got their own mini safe to keep their savings in.

MPs Steve McCabe and Richard Burden held a joint meeting on 17 February 2014 with families and carers of adults with learning difficulties who have been receiving respite care at the Kingswood Bungalows, Kingswood Drive, Monyhull Hall Road since the purpose built, specialist accommodation opened in 2000.

To mark the launch of The FA’s Disability Football Development Fund Selly Oak MP, Steve McCabe, met England Blind team members Dan English and Lewis Skyers at a Disability Football Demonstration in the shadow of Big Ben.

Yardley Wood’s very own Sweet Chillies restaurant was presented with an award from Selly Oak MP, Steve McCabe and Councillor Alex Buchanan for being highly commended by the judges of the annual Tiffin Cup competition.

Druids Heath residents are being urged to take advantage of a new initiative designed to help local people start a business.

The brainchild of local councillor Eva Phillips, the year-long project sees NatWest, social enterprise UnLtd, Birmingham Leadership Foundation and young people’s advocates Social Breakfast joining forces to tackle unemployment locally.
